Delay Differentiation by Reserving Space in Queue

چکیده
Introduction: A common problem in packet-based communication networks such as IP (Internet Protocol) or ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) is the provisioning of adequate QoS (Quality of Service) guarantees to the traffic flows in the network. To assess the scheduling performance of a node in such networks, we can regard the node as a queue to which two flows of packets arrive: the first flow (type 1) carries delaysensitive traffic while the second flow (type 2) represents best-effort traffic. To accommodate the more stringent delay requirements of the packets of type 1 (1-packets), the scheduling mechanism must give the 1-packets a certain priority over the 2-packets. Under FIFO (First-In First-Out), no special arrangements are made to prioritise the delaysensitive flow. On the other hand, the most extreme way of priority scheduling is AP (Absolute Priority) [1], for which the 1-packets will always be scheduled first. AP guarantees the lowest possible delay for the type 1 traffic, but at the cost of increasing the delay for the 2-packets which may result in packet starvation or time-out.

متن کاملUnreliable Server Mx/G/1 Queue with Loss-delay, Balking and Second Optional Service
This investigation deals with MX/G/1 queueing model with setup, bulk- arrival, loss-delay and balking. The provision of second optional service apart from essential service by an unreliable server is taken into consideration. We assume that the delay customers join the queue when server is busy whereas loss customers depart from the system. After receiving the essential service, the customers m...

متن کاملPartially Shared Buffers with Full or Mixed Priority
This paper studies a finite-sized discrete-time two-class priority queue. Packets of both classes arrive according to a two-class discrete batch Markovian arrival process (2-DBMAP), taking into account the correlated nature of arrivals in heterogeneous telecommunication networks. The model incorporates time and space priority to provide different types of service to each class. One of both clas...
متن کاملQueue with Heterogeneous Server Under Resequencing Constraint
In this paper, a markovian queue with two types of servers and buffer space is considered. The resequencing constraint is imposed according to which the customers leave the system in the same order in which they entered it. For finite buffer queue, the steady state queue size distribution has been obtained.?
